| In 1969 Hickory Ridge C.C. was built and established as the only member based 18 hole golf course in Amherst, Massachusetts. Renowned golf courses architect Geoffrey Cornish with assistance from designer Bill Robinson designed Hickory Ridge out of a piece of farm and pasture land. The Fort River, which winds its way through and around the golf course property, is one of the main features a player will have to struggle with as they make their way around the 18 hole layout. The River comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes but other holes have smaller streams and ponds that come into play. While lower handicap players can enjoy a championship test, other mid and high handicap players can enjoy the course from our shorter teeing areas, generous fairways and very large greens.
Hickory Ridge has been a big supporter of amateur golf with many Massachusetts Golf Association qualifying events as well as U.S.G.A. events including the U.S. Junior Sectional Qualifier in 2006. In June, 2010 Hickory Ridge will be hosting the 2010 Massachusetts Amateur Qualifier. Collegiate golf has been a big part of the history at Hickory Ridge. The Toski Intercollegiate which ran for over 25 years was the largest and longest running collegiate golf event in New England. Many players from up and down the East coast participated in this great event hosted by the famous Toski family. PGA Tour players such as Gerry Kelly and Mike Petrovic participated as well as many of other fine players who have continued their journey in the golf industry.
Hickory Ridge has long been considered a hidden gem and was voted best in the Valley many times by the Valley Advocate readers and Hickory was also selected as one of the top 100 courses in New England in 2004 by the New England golf course journal. As you can see, Hickory Ridge Country Club offers something for everyone. Our club is member based but is also open to the public. We have full practice facilities as well as complete food services including banquet and golf outing opportunities. The Professional staff offers a retail golf shop as well as top teaching programs throughout the season. Our entire staff is eager to create an enjoyable experience every time you visit.
