SPRING REPORT
June is here and we are all ahead full. "All" being our maintenance crew. I have many new additions to our maintenance staff this year. When new employees are hired, it takes a while to train them. We are training them now. Hopefully by summer we will have them trained well.
Our irrigation system is up and running. We had three leaks in our pipes from the winter. One large leak is on the 6th fairway. This took some time to repair because it is a main line and down fairly deep. If anyone sees a wet area, let us know. Some of these wet areas are tiny leaks that do not show on our pressure gauges or on our flow meters. We will be watering in some pre-emergence plant protectants to prevent crab grass. I try to keep the golf course as dry as possible, but we do at times need to water in certain products.
We just aerified the greens. This was with the deep tine aerifier. This aerifying creates tiny holes and does minimal disruption to play. This aerifying will help create better surface drainage and help our root system be stronger and deeper on our greens to help us through the tough summer months for growing grass.
We ask everyone to stay away from the willow tree on hole 13. There is a large broken branch up in the top of the canopy. This creates a potential dangerous situation. We are scheduled to have Shumway's tree service to come in and take out the broken branches. We need some dry weather to firm up the ground so the tree truck can come out.
Please repair your ball marks on the greens and at least one other. We are seeing many ball marks daily.
Also please rake the traps when you are in them. Repair all divots you take. This time of the year the divots will recover nicely if put back right away. At all times practice proper etiquette on the golf course.
Looking forward to a great season.
Sincerely,
Bob Ruszala
